SSC Signature Resize to 6 × 2 cm, 10–20 KB

This SSC signature resize tool is set to the signature rule in the SSC CGL 2026 notice: JPG, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. Upload your signature, check the result line by line, and download it. We checked the notice on 2026-11-08.

What the SSC notice asks for

In short: the SSC signature is a JPG of 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high, which is 709 × 236 px at 300 DPI.

Source: SSC CGL 2026 notice, para 9.6, published on ssc.gov.in on 21 May 2026 and checked 2026-11-08. The file name on the SSC site says “cgl_2025”, but the notice inside is for the Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026. Other SSC exams publish their own notices. Always confirm the rule in the notice for the exam you are applying for.

The notice gives the size in cm, not pixels. Pixels depend on the DPI you pick: 6 × 2 cm is 709 × 236 px at 300 DPI and 472 × 157 px at 200 DPI. Both have the same 3 : 1 shape. The tool uses 300 DPI, which keeps thin strokes clear and still fits 10–20 KB for a clean scan.

Pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × DPI, rounded to the nearest whole pixel. These are unit conversions, not sizes set by SSC.

6.0 cm or 4.0 cm wide?

The CGL 2026 notice gives two widths. Paragraph 9.6 and the general instructions say about 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm. The step-by-step guide for the online form (Annexure-IV) says about 4.0 cm × 2.0 cm. Both are written as approximate, and the file size and format are the same in both places.

The tool starts at 6.0 × 2.0 cm, the size in the main rules. If the notice for your exam gives 4.0 × 2.0 cm instead, open By pixels or cm and enter 4 and 2: that is 472 × 236 px at 300 DPI. The 10–20 KB limit stays the same.

SSC signature resize, step by step

For an SSC signature resize, follow these steps in order:

  1. Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue pen. Make the signature large; the notice rejects miniature signatures.
  2. Scan it, or photograph it from straight above in daylight, and upload the image above.
  3. Tick Trim empty space. If the photo has a shadow, tick Remove shadows and uneven light as well, and compare before and after.
  4. Press Resize to JPG. The tool fits the signature into 6 × 2 cm and finds the JPG quality that lands between 10 and 20 KB.
  5. Read the check list under the result: pixels, file size, format and DPI each show pass or fail. Download when every line passes, then upload the file in the SSC application form.

Why SSC rejects a signature

The CGL 2026 notice says applications with blurred or miniature signatures are rejected. It also says this ground does not apply to candidates who chose Aadhaar-based authentication. A file can meet 10–20 KB and still be rejected for this, so check how the signature looks, not only its size:

  • A small signature in the middle of a big page becomes tiny after resizing. Sign larger, or photograph closer and use Trim empty space.
  • Faint or grey strokes look blurred once compressed. Use Darken ink and whiten paper, or sign again with a thicker pen.
  • Ruled lines, stamps or shadows around the signature take bytes and distract from the strokes. Sign on blank paper.

The notice also allows a thumb impression instead of a signature for candidates with visual disability (PwD-VH). The same tool and limits work for a scanned thumb impression.

If the SSC form refuses your signature file

Check these in order. The first one that fails is usually the reason, and the check list under your result shows each value:

  1. File size. It must be between 10 and 20 KB. A file of 9.8 KB or 20.3 KB fails. Resize again with the default 10–20 KB target.
  2. Format. It must be a real JPG. A PNG or HEIC file renamed to .jpg is still the old format inside; download a fresh JPG from the tool.
  3. Shape. A square or very tall image does not match about 6 × 2 cm. Make sure By pixels or cm shows 6 × 2 cm (or 4 × 2 cm if your notice says so) and resize again.
  4. Readability. If the file is accepted but the signature is faint or tiny, it can still be rejected as blurred or miniature after you submit. Sign larger and darker and make a new file.

Making the signature file on your phone

  • Sign across a blank white sheet, about 6 to 8 cm wide. A signature that already has roughly the 3 : 1 shape needs little cropping and keeps more detail.
  • Put the sheet on a flat, evenly lit surface, such as a table near a window, and photograph it from straight above without zoom or flash.
  • Open this page in Chrome or Safari on the same phone, choose the photo from your gallery, and tick Trim empty space.
  • Download the JPG. On Android it lands in Downloads; on iPhone, save it to Files. Choose it from there in the SSC upload step.

The SSC photo is taken live, not resized

In the CGL 2026 application, the photograph is captured live through a webcam or mobile camera inside the form, so there is no photo file to resize. The notice asks for good light, a plain background, the camera at eye level, and no cap, mask or glasses. This page only covers the signature.

For other forms that ask for an uploaded photo, use the photo and signature resizer. For a signature with limits other than SSC's, the 10–20 KB signature guide explains minimum and maximum KB in detail.

Questions

Is 709 × 236 px the official SSC signature size?

No. The notice gives about 6.0 × 2.0 cm and does not name a DPI or pixel size. 709 × 236 px is 6 × 2 cm converted at 300 DPI. What the notice states exactly is the format (JPG) and the file size (10 to 20 KB).

Does this work for SSC CHSL, GD, MTS and other SSC exams?

We checked the CGL 2026 notice. Other SSC notices often use a similar rule, but each exam publishes its own, and widths have differed. Read the signature paragraph in your notice; if it differs, enter its size under By pixels or cm and its KB limits under By KB.

My signature stays under 10 KB. What can I do?

A very clean, thin signature compresses to almost nothing. Tick Darken ink and whiten paper, sign again with a thicker pen, or photograph it closer so more strokes fill the 6 × 2 cm box. The tool will not pad the file with hidden data to reach 10 KB.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. The SSC signature resize works on a phone: photograph the signature, open this page in your phone's browser, upload the photo and download the JPG. Nothing is uploaded to a server; the resizing happens on the phone.
